The TechArt story
Thomas Behringer and Matthias Krauss founded TechArt in 1987. The company’s early work included premium interiors before its business developed into extensive Porsche personalisation, encompassing body design and mechanical upgrades. Leonberg became the centre of a range that now covers several Porsche families rather than only the 911.
GTstreet projects illustrate the more complete performance-car end of that business, while Magnum applies a similarly distinctive approach to Cayenne. Alongside them, individual aerodynamic, wheel, exhaust and interior programmes allow a less extensive reinterpretation of the donor. This history is best understood as a range of conversion briefs, rather than one continuous line of original-platform supercars.

TechArt’s appeal begins with the challenge of changing a design as recognisable as a Porsche without making the result feel accidental. A 911 is particularly demanding because small changes in wheel proportion, stance or rear-wing treatment can alter the balance of a familiar shape. We prefer conversions whose components seem designed for the same car rather than assembled as separate statements.
The range also demonstrates why the word tuning is too broad to explain an individual vehicle. A subtle cabin treatment, a power kit and a complete GTstreet programme are different levels of intervention. They deserve separate descriptions and different questions about intended use, approval and mechanical support.
Magnum is interesting for a different reason. An SUV begins with proportions and practical requirements that a 911 does not share. The conversion has to work around that taller body and broader use case, so applying sports-car styling cues is not enough by itself. We would judge the coherence of the whole vehicle rather than the amount of visible carbon.
The most useful archive retains donor generations. A 991-based GTstreet and a newer 992 project can share a name without sharing every mechanical assumption. That distinction makes both the design discussion and any ownership research more precise.
